Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the primary recipient. This foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 90s. Other charities that received donations included those that Buffett's three children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named for his late wife, and is focused on women's rights to reproductive health and supported college scholarships. In the year 2010, Buffett together with Gates created the Giving Pledge. This pledge encouraged other wealthy people to donate a majority of their wealth to charitable causes.
